September 21st 2020 marks the anniversary of when Ferdinand Marcos declared martial law across the Philippines to establish himself as a fascist dictator for decades since 1972 until the People Power uprising ousting him from Malacanang in 1986. The Marcos’ should not be in power, nor should Marcos be seen as a ‘Hero’ and be celebrated. He was a fascist dictator who killed thousands of people, tortured and jailed hundreds of people, all who fought against his tyranny.
Today, though President Duterte has not declared martial law formally, we know that under the current fascist conditions of ‘community lockdown’ combined with Oplan Kapanatagan, Executive Order 70, the consolidation of power in Congress, the ‘Drug War’ and recent the passing of the “Anti-Terror Law,” (ATL) martial law conditions exist. Those targeted by the ATL can be jailed for up to 24 days without a case filed, as well as be surveilled without any permission from the courts. In addition EO70 established the NTF-ELCAC [National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict], which has the objective of subduing the CPP-NPA-NDF and terrorizing organizations that are critical of the Duterte regime and that protect the democratic interests of the people. Since the passing of the ATL there has been major increases in human rights violations through mass arrests and politically motivated killings.
Join BAYAN USA and the Malaya Movement, as well as many others who are rising up to take a stand agains the fascist Duterte regime!
